Heaven smiled and he was born Da Vinci, Leonardo. The impact and resonance of his contribution to humanity is not measurable in mere mortal terms. Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, his life’s work is an awe inspiring synthesis of art, science and technology.
How is it that a figure who lived nearly five centuries ago, continues to fascinate and engage our interest today? With the recent discovery of a studio of a Da Vinci’s that had been sealed for centuries and the ongoing debate regarding the true origin of the alleged Da Vinci Code, time again has resurrected and revitalized interest in perhaps the greatest thinker of all time.
Born the illegitimate son of a notary, Leonardo was born in 1452 in a small farmhouse in Anchiano. In 1457 he moved to Vinci where he stayed with his fathers family even though he was never legitimized. At the age of 14 Leonardo moved to Florence to begin an apprenticeship in the workshop of Verrocchio. At the time, Andrea del Verrochio was the most famous artist in Florence. During his tenure with Verrocchio, Leonardo learned the mixing of colors and painted simple parts of paintings. In June, 1472, Leonardo was listed as a member of the Painters Guild of Florence.
The Annunciation
The Annunciation, painted in 1480-1481, now hangs in the Louvre. It is a small painting with a deep and misty landscape with highly detailed flowers in the foreground very typical of Leonardo’s style during his time in Florence.
THE LAST SUPPER
By far one of the most famous paintings of all time, the Last Supper was painted between 1495 and 1498 at the Santa Maria delle Grazie Monastery in Milan. This biblical scene, commissioned by the Friars of Saint Dominic is significant for it’s incredible composition and the subtle emotional interplay between the apostles. Featuring great dexterity and mastery of the human form, this compelling work is at once a moving testament to Christianity and a marvel of DaVinci’s virtuosity and technical finesse as a painter. This painting firmly establishes Leonardo’s position as the supreme master artist of the high renaissance. At all times, Christ is the central focus of the scene. This is accomplished by placing Christ in the center of the painting and by placing all of the spatial lines and perspective points within the framework of the painting to draw the viewer to the very center of the tableau. The apostles are in fact supporting characters and each and every figure is majestically formed to frame and enhance the focus on the Christ figure. The years surrounding the period in which the Last Supper was painted were periods of intense anatomical studies for Da Vinci. It is a well known fact that Leonardo dissected cadavers in order to fully understand the complex workings of the muscles and inner workings of the human body. Of huge importance is to understand that the individual apostles are reacting to Christ’s announcement that a traitor is among them. This is the very heart of this timeless, enduring image. The “Pathos” of each figure is brilliantly executed through gestures and reactions that reveal each apostle’s individual astonishment, disbelief, and fear. How did Technology Help to Cure Breast Cancer?

For many years, doctors and scientists have been looking for a cure for cancer and especially for breast cancer. A vaccine has eluded doctors for many years and they continue on their quest for finding one. Doctors are trying out new ways to improve the already existing forms of diagnoses and treatment. It has been of major concern that, the methods of diagnoses in use today have been very invasive and that they can only be used when the disease begins to show signs and symptoms. The methods of diagnoses have also been known to increase chances of developing the disease they are supposed to be diagnosing. This is because, repeated exposure to radiation could result in cancer.
Some of the methods in use today include; ultrasound, MRI, digital mammogram, duct lavage, image guided breast biopsy and PET scan. Most of these tests rely on ultra sounds, although some do not, such as MRI and PET scan. Sometimes these methods can be used together in order to give more conclusive results for breast cancer detection. For example, an ultrasound can be used together with a needle biopsy. Modern ultrasound is able to detect whether a lump is cancerous or malignant. These results can further be supported and confirmed by use of a needle biopsy.
Most of these methods are mainly advances on the old forms of diagnosis. They have been modified in order to give clearer results and also to produce results faster. For example, the old type of mammograms used x-ray film but the new types of mammograms use computer codes that can be read using a computer. It is also possible to make changes on these codes before finally printing them on film. This new method helps in giving very clear images that prove very helpful to the doctor when making interpretations of the film. The images can also be saved on the computer for comparison purposes and copies can be printed out when the need arises.
Some methods are also in use for detection of cancerous cells in the denser parts of the breast where normal methods may be unable to detect them. This method is also a type of mammogram which uses x-rays. The method focuses on areas that have growth of blood cells which could be an indicator of cancer. The process is very fast and takes less than ten minutes. However, scientists are still at work and many of the procedures are still under trial. It is hoped that in a few years, more progress will have been made and it will become possible to diagnose breast cancer earlier and help save more lives.

Canon Rebel T1i Revealed

Are you into photography? Maybe you aspire to own your dream camera which you can use everywhere and take good shots. If you are looking for a camera, why don’t you try Canon Rebel T1i digital SLR? It is Canons latest big brother in its Rebel lineup, and is definitely one worthy of consideration. It has to be one of the better even though expensive entry level SLR cameras on the market today. Not that it makes as much a difference as you may imagine, but the D90 SLR has a smallish (12.3MP) image sensor than the more affordable Canon Rebel t1i digital SLR (15.1MP). If one was only to consider the obvious specifications, it would be a no brainier to select the Rebel T1i 15.1MP over the Nikon D90 DX. Unfortunately for the average bewildered consumer, that’s far from the truth. There exist better image sensors (SLR 40D) that could have been used here.
Megapixel is too commonly used in selling cameras, and Olympus, Nikon and the rest of the producers know that most of all. In the case of the T1i, the sales department seems to have converted the design engineers.
If the Rebel SLR T1i wants to have a more enticing megapixel ranking, with a sensor that is sort of smaller than the D90 SLR DX image sensor, then they have to use smaller pixels, and crowd them nearer to each other on the sensor. A more correct indicator of picture quality than megapixels is pixel density.
Some points to remember when dealing with a digital camera that has too many jammed pixels. As you go looking for extra lenses, you’ll discover that more megapixels means spending more on expensive lenses. The better lens with high resolving capacities that are fashioned to work with additional mega pixels will not be the cheaper lenses.
Wait, there’s more, as I’m far from finished highlighting the problems with high pixel density. Excessive pixel density can be a detriment also to ISO, dynamic range, and diffraction. Upon further analysis, it would appear that our first assumption of the Canon Rebel t1i digital SLR being better bang for the buck was slightly wrong.
Acquiring an expensive camera is not easy especially if you do not have budget for it but what the most important thing is you never lost your passion to produce good memories.

As a form of social media, it is now being used by television networks, well-known companies, large and small scale businesses, and private/public offices. Reasons like product promotions, endorsements of important persons, politics, and information segregation are just few among the many answers why Facebook is very useful nowadays. One brilliant idea is using the site to ask for help during disasters.
What’s equally amazing with the site too is its ability to connect with hundreds and even thousands of your friends all over the world; in fact you can even add persons you don’t know provided they accept your invitation. You can post your activities, say how you feel, chat with possibly everybody who’s online and most of all play virtual games that can distress you in your spare time.
It has its own shortcoming too and addiction is number one. Some people find once they’ve become engrossed in the Facebook culture they become addicted. Depending on your perspective, spending too much time on a single website with nothing else to show at the end of the day may be a huge disadvantage. Another thing to consider is your privacy, no matter how rigid you set your privacy settings, it is important to realize that nothing is foolproof and by joining Facebook you will lose a level of privacy. Always keep in mind you cannot control what interaction happens on your Facebook friends’ pages and that you may end up in photos or comments you cannot control. Always be careful what you comment on. Lastly, it is also very time-consuming. If you are hard-pressed for time, it’s important to set time limits for yourself or you’ll likely find it’s highly possible to lose valuable time that could have been more productive elsewhere.
It’s up to how will you use it. Bottom line is that Facebook is still a public domain and anybody can use and violate your right as a person. However, using it in a positive way and avoiding pitfalls far more outweigh the disadvantages of the site. Enjoy being a member!
